Look inside a flower and learn about pollination
Do you know why plants have flowers? Why are they colourful? Why do they smell nice?
Go out in the garden and pick some flowers, then dissect them to learn about their parts and why each part is important for pollination.
Watch the videos below to learn about the parts of flowers and what they do. Then you can do your own investigating!
Head outside and choose some flowers to dissect, look closely at, compare, and learn from. When you open up the flowers, what parts can you see? What do you notice? What is the same about each flower and what is different?
Watch the awesome video, ‘Look Inside a Flower’ to learn all about the parts of flowers and pollination. Then watch ‘Flower Dissection - STEM Activity’ and have a go at the STEM activity comparing the parts of 3 flowers. You’ll need 3 flowers to dissect. This activity will help you to learn lots about the parts of flowers, the similarities, and the differences between them.
Note: You can use pieces of paper, rather than paper plates to sort the parts of your flowers on to.
If you are interested in pollination, these videos teach you lots more about it. After watching them, you could check out our Nature Connector that is all about our native pollinators and then you could plant a garden to attract them!
