Observe Monarch Butterflies

Grow, or buy, swan plants and observe monarch butterflies.  This is a fantastic way to learn about insect life cycles.  Watching a caterpillar hatch from a tiny egg, grow and shed skins before transforming itself into a gold rimmed chrysalis, then finally emerging as a beautiful butterfly, is truly magical. It really is an example of how amazing nature can be.

Watch this video to learn about the butterfly life cycle. After watching it, you could research the life cycles of other animals and then compare them to the life cycles of butterflies. You might find it interesting to look at the life cycles of other insects like, ladybirds, cicadas and huhu beetles.
