Art Competition Success

Huka Honey Hive, Donovan Bixley, Kids Greening Taupō and Quality Print teamed up to present an art competition to school children for Greening Taupō Day. The challenge was to imagine what Aotearoa/New Zealand looked like when the first people arrived on its shores. It was a land filled with native forests and beautiful wetlands, teeming with an incredible array of life. There were gigantic insects, lizards and frogs who gave birth to live young, tiny bats who foraged on the ground, and flightless birds.

A grand prize giving ceremony was held at the Huka Honey Hive. Winning entries won fabulous products from the Huka Honey Hive and the book ‘Squawk’ written and illustrated by Taupō local artist Donovan Bixley. Country Kidz ECE won the 5-6 year-old category with a beautiful green lizard. The 7-8 and 11-12 year old categories were won by Hilltop School students skillfully using colour and showcasing the abundant life found in Aotearoa/New Zealand. Meanwhile, the 9-10 year-old category belonged to talented Waikarei students for their illustration of diverse bird life . A new entrant class from Taupō Primary, showing original artistic expression using multimedia, won a visit from Donovan Bixley to teach them new art skills.

Kids Greening Taupō, impressed with the incredible artwork and the children’s accurate representation of an early Aotearoa/New Zealand, honored more talented artists with a chocolate bar. A few of Taupō Intermediate School’s art students excelled with the project, prompting Donovan Bixley to generously offer them a private art lesson. St Patrick’s Catholic School earned a hourere/lacebark native tree and book about native New Zealand animals for being the school with most entries. Additionally, Hilltop School received a native Ribbonwood and a pack of native trivia cards for having the most winning entries.

Thank you to all the children who participated, the teachers that engaged their students to learn about the uniqueness of Aotearoa/New Zealand, and to the sponsors of the competition, Huka Honey Hive, Donovan Bixley, and Quality Prints.

Kim Manunui

Hi, I’m Kim and I work with a great team to help individuals, as well as small and not so small businesses get their message, product and services to the world using digital media and creating wonderful websites that don’t cost the earth.

I was born in Canada, and grew up around Vancouver and the mountains of British Columbia. My love of pristine environments led me to New Zealand and eventually to the mountains, lakes and rivers of the central North Island which is home. My family’s heritage is here, and it’s from here that Korio traverses the planet.

The digital world is never static and neither are we.

And I say ‘we’ because I work with an awesome group of talented people who I gather together as required to complete a project.  Whatever your business, not-for-profit or individual needs are we gather the best team to get the job done.

Collaboratively we are creative, share sustainable values and work hard for great outcomes because that’s the buzz of satisfaction that drives us.

If you have an audience and market to reach, we can make that happen. Creative design, words that work and smart behind the scenes stuff that cuts through the online noise. We’ll design your website and then build it. We’ll manage the content as well as all your hosting needs. We can handle your online advertising so you get noticed,
and we’ll manage your social media presence so you get the clicks, likes and engagement to grow your business. All within the budget you set, because none of this needs to cost the earth.  And the job doesn’t stop when your website goes live. We are your virtual business partner.
