The Importance of Connecting Children with Nature
This is why we do what we do!
Kids Greening Taupō is an environmental education organisation aiming to engage tamariki in authentic restoration and conservation work. However, we hold this David Attenborough quote close to our hearts and to all of the work that we do. If we want our tamariki to be the kaitiaki of the future, we need to connect them with nature. For our future leaders to prioritise the environment, they have to appreciate it and understand it.
So, this is why you might see us with tamariki doing things that may not look like 'conservation work'. We'll be bug hunting, bird watching, exploring the forest or local gully, photographing fungi, doing nature art... It might just look like fun, but we are actually connecting our children with nature and building a love for it in our future leaders. This is just as important, if not more so, than planting native trees, clearing weeds, and setting traplines.
