Show your native plants some love!

Restoring our environment is not just about planting native trees. Those trees need love in order to survive, and never more so than at this time of year. Trees are thirsty in the heat and are being smothered by weeds that have shot up over Spring. You can help them get through this tough time of year by following these steps:

  • Choose a plant

  • Carefully pull the weeds out that are around it

  • Give it some water

  • If you have worm tea or fertiliser, you could even give it a boost with that!

  • If you have mulch available, mulch a doughnut shape around the base of the tree, careful to avoid it touching the trunk (it can rot the trunk if it is touching it)

Post a photo of your class or ECE centre showing native plants love (watering, weeding or mulching) and be in to win ice creams for your class/centre!

You can email us the photo to rachel@greeningtaupo.org.nz or post it in the comments on our facebook post. We will randomly select one school class and one ECE centre to have free ice creams on a hot day.
