Showing Plants Love and Wicked Weeding!

Showing plants love for Valentine's Day! We had a fantastic Valentine's Event with over 100 tamariki from Tauhara Primary School, Best Start Motutaiko and Tawa Street Preschool joining the Greening Taupo Wicked Weeders to weed and mulch the restoration site at Crown Park. The Wicked Weeders weeded around the plats, then the tamariki spread buckets of mulch in ‘doughnuts’ around the plants. This helps to suppress weeds, keeps plants warm in the winter, keeps moisture in in the summer, and gives the plants nutrients as it decomposes.

The ice creams at the end were well deserved!

Then, in March the Wonderful Weeders from Mountview School met up with the Wicked Weeders from Greening Taupo. Together they pulled out thousands of Canadian Fleabane plants that were crowding out our native plants in our Greening Taupō Day site on Tauhara Road.. Fantastic work!
