2026 Tauhara Maunga Tamariki Planting Day
KGT Coordinator and Trees for Survival Facilitator, Heidi Pritchard planting with tamariki.
We were proud to support the Te Mana o Tauhara Charitable Trust to plant on Tauhara Middle 15 lands on Mt Tauhara at the Tauhara Kītea Tamariki Planting Day alongside so many other organisations, kura, and community members. It is pretty special to see so many organisations coming together to help connect the tamariki with the maunga, while restoring its korowai and bringing back biodiversity.
Kids Greening Taupō supported the day by organising the rumaki and kura kaupapa to come along. The participating kura were TKKM o Whakarewa, Taupō Primary School te reo Māori class, Tauhara Primary School Rumaki, Mountview School – Te Kura o te Maunga Rumaki, Te Kura o te Waitahanui, St Patrick’s School, and Waipāhīhī School. We also organised the buses and some of the stands with activities. It was wonderful to support Tūwharetoa Māori Trust Board with their activities by providing some resources. We also created a quiz for tamariki to do as they visited each stand to ensure that they were engaged.
It was amazing to see around 500 tamariki from across the Taupō rohe planting more than 3,000 native trees. 2,000 of those trees had been grown from seed by the tamariki of St Patrick’s Catholic School, Taupō, and Waipāhīhī School, through the Trees for Survival programme facilitated by Kids Greening Taupō.
This fantastic collaborative kaupapa is something that we are very proud to be part of. Thank you so much to the many individuals and organisations that make it happen.
