Taupō Family Playcentre

Did you know that our two KGT coordinators, Rachel and Heidi were both Taupō Family Playcentre mums together many years ago? So was our ecologist Alana and our NZ Forest Managers contact Jackie, along with many of our student leaders’ parents! So, Taupō Family Playcentre has a special place in our heart.

In 2022 we planted around the Playcentre carpark and that site is now flourishing. Since then we have done a couple of small plantings on the playcentre grounds with the parents and tamariki.

In 2026, thanks to the KGT Contact Energy Take Action Fund, Taupō Family Playcentre was able to put about 100 native plants in around their grounds with us. Our awesome volunteer, John Hutchison, dug all of the holes, so the tamariki were able to plant the trees independently. They loved learning how to plant from Heidi and then showing off their new skills by busily planting all the trees that were laid out. This ngahere will be fantastic for the tamariki to explore and it will bring more biodiversity into the centre grounds.
