Whio Sessions

Fantastic Whio! We had fun recently doing sessions about whio with every class at Taupō Primary School. Tamariki learned about how special and unique these beautiful birds are, how endangered they are (20x rarer than kiwi!) and how we can help to protect them. This session linked so well with previous sessions about freshwater macroinvertebrates (whio food), freshwater biosecurity, Aotearoa's unique birds, the history of biodiversity in Aotearoa, the importance of native planting, and the impact of introduced predators.

Thanks so much to Department of Conservationfor lending us the taxidermy whio and predators and to Whio Forever for all of the fantastic resources to share with the teachers. We even decided to run a whio competition!
