Native Plant Scavenger Hunt
Go for a walk around your neighbourhood and in your local green space. See if you can identify any native trees. How many of the ones on our scavenger hunt sheet can you spot? You might need to do some research to tell some of them apart. Can you tell mānuka from kānuka? (Hint: Use the saying “Mean mānuka and kind kānuka.” Mānuka feels prickly and kānuka feels soft when you hold a branch). You can use the iNaturalist appto help you identify the trees.
Check out our Native Restoration Plant Hunt to learn about the interesting native plants that might be more common in restoration sites, native gardens and local green spaces.
Check out our Native Plant Cards here. They are great to take into the forest with you, as they can help you to identify the plants, and tell you some fun facts about them!
You might also like our Native Plant BINGO game that also has fun facts about each plant.
