Children’s Day Teddy Bear’s Picnic

The 2024 Whānau Taupō Children's Day Teddy Bear's Picnic was a blast. The community event was a hit with plenty of organised activities. The games lineup focused on protecting our precious native birds and other wildlife. Participants could engage in activities such as "Guardians of the Sky," where they aided native birds in reaching the ngahere and the KGT obstacle course that leads to discovering how unique Aotearoa’s native wildlife is. Additionally, there were engaging games like "Predator-Free Zone," where attendees honed their skills in trapping and shooting pests. One game even used real Victor traps. Watch those fingers! These initiatives fostered awareness and appreciation for our native wildlife while encouraging proactive conservation efforts. We owe a big thanks to our fantastic KGT student leaders as they fostered their leaderships skills by running each of the activities. You were awesome! They even got the mayor David Trewavas to hold a stick insect!

We encouraged tamariki to bring along a native animal soft toy to the Teddy Bears Picnic. Those who participated were rewarded with a delightful sweet treat and an opportunity to enter a draw for a chance to win a $60 nectar bird feeder courtesy of Mitre 10 MEGA Taupō . Congratulations to Marni for winning the prize!
