Funding for Schools

We are very grateful to Contact Energy for their ‘Take Action Fund.’ This $6500 funding allows us to sponsor projects at many local schools and ECE centres. This year 12 schools and ECE centres that are new to our programme will receive $300 each to put towards gloves, tools, and other equipment to help them participate in our programme. They receive this amount annually for their first three years with us. How cool is that!

21 schools and ECE centres will also be awarded money from the remainder of this fund, or native plants funded by The Possum Night Trail Run and First Credit Union, to support their restoration projects. The total value of this sponsorship allocated by Kids Greening Taupō, thanks to these generous funders, was over $10,000.

Schools and ECE centres applied for the funding by having their students make videos about the projects that they had planned. Our KGT senior student leaders watched the videos and discussed each application. They decided how the money would be allocated. There were some very interesting discussions about which projects were most worthy and why!

Kids Greening Taupō coordinators will work with the successful schools/ECE centres to help them with their projects and to get the plants in the ground. We encourage students to be involved in every aspect of the projects, from planning, to planting and maintenance, to designing signage. Photos of the projects will be taken to share with the funders so that they can see how their money was spent.

This year the funding will go towards a variety of projects and resources, including tools, gloves, wagons, raised gardens, wet weather gear, signage, traps, top soil, shelving, irrigation, shade houses, weed control, and plants for restoration projects.

Thank you so much Contact EnergyThe Possum, and First Credit Union for your ongoing support of our programme and the schools/ECE centres that take part in it. We are so very grateful for your funding that allows the restoration projects to happen all over Taupō, involving thousands of students.
