Exploring the ngahere at night

Recently our Student Leadership Team have been exploring the ngahere at night! People don’t often head out to explore the bush on a cold, rainy, winter’s evening, so it was a great chance to show our students another view of the forest.

We saw banks of glowworms mirroring the starry night sky, tunnel web spiders peeking out, millipedes and slugs emerging. We felt the warm geothermal stream and even found a warm waterfall to play under! We heard ruru calling to us. Using a UV torch helped us to see the world as insects see it and to spot things that we wouldn’t usually see. It was a magical evening of exploration for our student leaders.
