Mangakino School

Mangakino School is such an awesome little kura! In 2026, we did our first planting with them, supporting Taupō District Council staff to grow the native ngahere by the lake. It was a special spot, as we had a backdrop of previously planted native forest that was full of fluttering piwakawaka checking out what we were doing and tūī racing in and out overhead. The tamariki learnt about why we plant native plants and about a few of the special species that we were planting, then they got into planting. Another 400 native rākau joined the forest and a whole school connected with te taiao (the environment). This was the 49th local school/ECE centre to plant a restoration site with us. We can't wait to go back each term to nurture it and watch it grow alongside the tamariki.
