Tauhara College Ngahere
A new school ngahere (forest) in 2026!
Tauhara College Taupo celebrated the opening of their new school buildings by beginning a new native forest at school. Every Year 9 student planted a native plant around the field, a project that is planned to continue for the next 5 years. It was extra special to plant with Tauhara Maunga looking over us and the Crown Park restoration planting in sight. It was easy for the rangatahi to see that this was part of a bigger picture, a link in the native corridor from town to the maunga, to bring back biodiversity to urban Taupō and to protect our rare geothermal habitat. The students could see a future where they return to Taupō and find a thriving native forest that they helped to create. Thanks so much to the Contact Energy Take Action Fund for funding this project and big thanks to John Hutchison for digging all the holes for us!
