Video Competition

As people flock to our beautiful lake for the summer, we are keen to make sure they know about the clams and how to avoid spreading them to Lake Taupō. We want to keep the important messaging coming and thought that if we had lots of cool videos being shared, that would help.

So, we challenge you to get together with friends and make a video that helps to spread the key messages about the clams. If you do this, you could win prizes! If you or your business would like to donate some prizes, let us know.

Check out this video made by some of our local students! Can you do better? Give it a go!

Terms and Conditions

  • If you share a video with us, everyone in it must have permission to be on social media and any images that you use must be allowed to be shared. Only share it with us if you are sure of these things.

  • Make it funny and/or interesting! We want people to take notice of it and share it!

  • Make sure it covers as many of the key messages as possible. (See these below and learn more here.)

  • We prefer videos to be ‘portrait’ rather than ‘landscape’, as they are better for sharing on social media.

  • If you share videos with us, you are giving us permission to share them on our social media channels and website.

  • Videos can be shared via our social media channels, or emailed to rachel@greeningtaupo.org.nz

Key messages to share:

  • ‘Keep our lake beautiful!’

  • Lake Taupō currently does NOT have invasive clams.

  • There are invasive clams in the Waikato River, downstream from Mangakino.

  • Clams can be spread easily as the larvae are invisible to our eyes and can stick to gear.

  • Gear, including togs, life jackets, and wetsuits, must be checked, cleaned, and dried for 48 hours before being used in a different lake/river.

  • For more information check this out: www.kidsgreeningtaupo.org.nz/activities-nature-connection/invasive-clams

Prizes:

Watch this space! We are on the hunt for prizes from local businesses. If you know any that would like to donate something, please let us know. We will choose the videos that capture people’s interest and spread the key messages to win prizes. Any videos sent to us over the school holidays are eligible and prizes will be announced on January 31st.
